Applying personal construct psychology in the aftermath of civil war
|
||||||||||||||
摘要:
The talk will focus on how personal construct psychology and its methodology were used to explore the construing of, and to facilitate interventions with, individuals who had survived a brutal civil war in Sierra Leone. The primary areas of exploration were:
constructions of psychological problems and their treatment;
pathways to humanisation of treatment in a psychiatric hospital;
construing of former child soldiers;
psychological recovery in amputees;
the impact of a further traumatic event: Ebola.
Amongst the implications considered will be those for appropriate research methods in different cultural settings; and for approaches to international aid. As a further illustration of the value of personal construct methods, there will also be consideration of how the use of these in another African country, Tunisia, has allowed the analysis of radicalisation, including of individuals who went on to fight in armed conflict in Syria.
